Season’s greetings, moms. We are at the end of 2016, the holiday season is here. We only have 17 days until Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season. .
I have to admit, it’s easy to get lured into the spirit of shopping. I’ve taken advantage of a few online deals and Black Friday bargains. However, I really enjoy this time of year not just for the giving and receiving of gifts but for the time spent with loved ones. The holidays are a special time of the year where we should spend more time with family. Like most of our teenagers, my daughter’s Christmas wish list is long with high priced gift items. I looked at her when she gave me the list saying “#Really #GirlBye?”
While this year is my daughter’s last year of high school, she is preparing for college with hopes of becoming a nurse. I want this Christmas to be “extra” special. I want to give her “more” of the gifts we give our daughters all year long. I’m making a conscious effort to make this a Christmas she will always remember. I’m giving her intangible gifts that can’t be wrapped in boxes, paper and bows. I want to give more this holiday season creating special memories that will last a lifetime.
Here is my list of (8) gifts for my daughter and granddaughter (s) this Christmas.
1. Prayer– A personalized and framed prayer asking God for protection and guidance as she is matures into a virtuous woman. 2. More Love -More unconditional love. Lots of hugs and kisses. Loving on her even when we’re not in a loveable mood. 3. Time& Presence– More face time with one another. Making an conscious effort to turn off the TV and have open communication. Dedicate at least 10 minutes a day or more without technology. No cell phones or IPads allowed. 4. Forgiveness– Practicing more forgiveness without holding grudges. Reflecting on memories of being a 17 year old daughter, forgiving those not so good attitudes and behaviors. 5 Listening– A willingness to listen instead of reacting to every situation. 6 Seek to Understand– Allowing her to express her concerns and to ask questions. Seeking to understand her inner most thoughts. Be open to honest conversations. Create a 1 minute no judgment zone conversation. 7 More Laughter/ Fun Times – Have fun. Laughing a little more. Letting my hair down. Turn on her music and learn the latest dances. 8 Cooking – Find a recipe online or in a cook book and prepare a meal together.
Happy Holidays. May God bless you and your family.
